Women and Men are Equal..Or Are They?

Remember the time when they told you 'This is the millenium, women are as capable as men blablabla..'?
Well I must say that this could be true, or this could be a load of humbug (the only thing I remembered from 'A Christmas Carol').Women have always been viewed as the weaker gender in mankind. See even the generic term for humans is coined from the word 'men'. They are the damsels in distress, the more emotional sapien, the less capable one, the one that needs to be protected and shielded. This is good for us in certain circumstances (like asking for your boyfriend's TLC), but if you are sub-existing and competing alongside men, it's a different story all together.

For one, you would often get 'Are you sure you know what you are doing?' perception, especially if you dabble in a traditional men-only activity e.g. the army, construction works, engineering, IT?!etc. Apart from the emotional non-support that you may sometimes encounter, you would have to 'fight' even harder than a man who is involved in the same activity. Indeed we may have come a long way since our 'needy' female ancestors, but sometimes you do get negative sentiments from the men. And then there is also the sexual harassment issues, because no matter how powerful you are, you are still a woman with all the right assets.

I must say that from my own experiences, it seriously does not matter if you are the toughest or the most skillful of all women; you would still have to fight and claw your way through 'man'kind to be able to earn your position in 'their clan'. There would always be questions of ' are you capable', 'are you sure you can endure this', 'are you sure you are logical enough to solve this', 'are you sure you are smart enough'?! It could go both ways; you would either have to face all sorts of negativity or your opinion gets ignored totally because 'this is not a lady's decision'. Call it ego, call it primitive instinct, but subconsciously or not, the men would have the tendency to question your capability.

I guess in this kind of situation, the best you could do is to be yourself, be confident of your skills, knowledge, SELF. Fight if you have to, demand help , demand attention, demand credits if you know you earned and deserve it.

Anyway, before this begin sound like some feminist lobby, I must say, be proud of yourself Woman!
