You know You Are an English/ non English Ed If..

DISCLAIMER: The article that you are about to read does not depict anyone, alive or dead, in any way at all. All characters mentioned are fictional, and are derived solely from the writer's imagination.

You know you are a Non English Ed if:

1. You take exams very seriously. Your target is to score the highest you could amongst everyone else in class.
2. You take it so seriously, you forgot the moral value of Sharing.
3. You tend to stare intently at a person who is 'different' from you (E.g. on the train), until that person makes eye contact with you; and then you pretend to look away.
4. You do not think much of people who cannot speak their mother tongue. You continue talking in it even when the other party do not have an inkling of what you are saying. Sometimes, you pass remarks about that person right in front of his/ her nose.
5. You get excited at any prospect of showing off your talents/ ability, that the whole room has to know about it. You needn't talk to everyone individually, because they could hear you even from another end. E.g. when the Boss assigns a job that no one else but you could 'handle it' or talking about your 'overseas study' stint.
6. If there is someone from your own clan that does not behave like the rest of the clan or do what you expected them to, you tend to scorn at them. E.g. You call them "ang-mohnized" or some other alienated names.
7. Your favourite read: Tabloid magazines of stars from your motherland to get fashion tips, gossips to share, etc.
8. You work very hard to gain the respect of your superiors; sometimes others get the perception that you are 'sucking up'. You look down upon peers who do not have 'achievements' like you.
9. You do not really fancy 'cross-breeding'; i.e. dating someone from another 'clan'. You stare intently at people who do. Hence, Point 3.
10. You hoard lots of money but pretend you are living hand to mouth when your bank account boasts five figures and your properties are scattered across the country.

You know you are an English Ed if:

1. You take exams seriously. Your target: To survive the exam by meeting the passing mark. (if the subject is not your cup of tea!)
2. You do not mind having group studies to exchange exam tips from various sources.
3. You are too busy reading that Jackie Collins novel of yours on the train, you don't bother if Gandhi stepped in the carriage. You would just give a passing glance and go back to Jackie Collins.
4. You sometimes laugh your a** if someone mispronounces an English word, or pronounce it with their mother tongue slang. Of course you would not do it openly, but bitch about it for ages later. If someone does not get the joke you are trying to tell, you'd be patient enough to explain, instead of passing remarks to your other English speaking friends.
5. As long as the Boss keeps out of your way, you would be happy. Of course this does not mean that you play hookie at work. You do your stuff and put in extra effort when required to. Achievements means silent personal satisfaction and there is no need for public announcement of you doing your postgrad at Cambridge.
6. You do not normally bother much about someone from 'another clan'. Until they piss you off that is. Otherwise, you accept them for who they are. What you cannot stand are bitches in your own clan.
7. Your favourite reads: Jackie Collins, Sidney Sheldon, Sweet Valley High, CLEO, FHM.
8. You try to help those who are 'under-achievers'as much as you could if you are one of those down-to-earth kind of English 'eds'.
9. You would not mind dating someone from another race, and will especially gawk if it was someone who looks like Heath Ledger or Hrithik Roshan. Many of your friends do it, so it's nothing new.
10. When you say you live hand to mouth, you really mean it. Hoarding money only happens if you are Ali Baba. When you say your bank account is dry, and you want to show your passbook to prove it, you are really sincere about it.

This happens to be a very biased-point-of-view, since it is coming from a girl who spent all of her schooling life in an English speaking environment!
